London engagement shoot at Canary Wharf | Athena & Vy
I remember very clearly when Athena slid into my Instagram DM’s, telling me she couldn't stop looking at my Instagram feed. Oh, and that she had gotten engaged! We had worked together about 6 months prior for Athena’s London lifestyle photoshoot (and have gone on to have over 5 incredible photoshoots together!) - she had been a dream to work with.
As a London pre wedding photographer, I offer loads of location suggestions for all clients that I work with. Athena opted for Canary Wharf - a place that held a special place in both Athena and Vy’s lives.
You can probably see from the choice of outfits that it was freezing. I do feel as though the winter season adds to this romantic fairytale love story and as a London pre wedding photographer - I approve. I approve a lot. London is absolutely magical in the winter season - fairy lights everywhere, and Christmas cheer is present wherever you go. If there is one place you visit during the Christmas period, it is London. I promise! Don’t even get me started on Winter Wonderland.
As the third wheel/photographer, we roamed around Canary Wharf together. It was a quiet weekend morning - the city was still asleep (which is rare and magical). We pretty much had the whole of Canary Wharf to ourselves! Those of you that are familiar with the area know that the official ‘Canary Wharf’ area is pretty small and is essentially a ‘square’ on google maps. We definitely utilised it to our advantage!
We hunted down some incredibly instaworthy spots in Canary Wharf, including this coffee shop. I am obsessed with these neon lights - I spotted them from a distance and was already thinking of all the different angles we could get. I am so weak, I know! As a wedding photographer London offers so many incredible locations - I can’t seem to get enough of them! It’s a brilliant dilemma to have though.
Then, we roamed towards the River Thames - I mean as a London photographer, I couldn’t have a photoshoot in Canary Wharf and miss out the gorgeous Harbourside view! It is seriously stunning - and oh the yummy golden hour light was the cherry on top. One of the reasons why I love being an engagement photographer in London - the River Thames never fails to look incredibly picturesque.
Canary Wharf is a secondary business district in London and a major financial centre after the City of London. Surprisingly, Canary Wharf is home to some of Europe’s tallest bulldings, including the second tallest in the UK: One Canada Square. There are some incredible skyline views to be found here if London cityscapes are your thing, with gorgeous modern buildings and seriously clean roads. Seriously!
We made our way to the iconic Crossrail Place bridge and took the obligatory pap there. It’s one of those bridges that are filled with London photographers left right and centre, and when you type in #canarywharf on Instagram, it’s probably the first place to come up. Definitely worth checking out! When it isn’t crowded, that is. As a London photographer, I’ve gotten used to finding ways to avoid crowds - it reduces my workload in photoshop, and is an overall nicer experience when you aren’t queueing to get the shot you need. And yes, I learnt that the hard way ;)
